Malaysian Recycling Empowerment Association (PERKESA)

The Malaysian Recycling Empowerment Association (PERKESA) was formed to promote the interests of the metal recycling industry nationwide, to foster cooperation among member firms, to address common challenges, to collaborate with the government on recycling-related policies, and to raise public awareness of the significant environmental benefits of metal recycling.

PERKESA was established in 2020 by a dedicated group of recyclers with the vision to create a code of ethics for the industry and to implement a Best Practice system for dealing with other dealers, customers, and suppliers.

Our members are traders and recyclers involved in processing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals, automotive metals, and by-products from metal manufacturers throughout Malaysia. Members also engage in import and export activities, collect recyclable materials from customer premises, and specialize in various aspects of sustainable metal recycling.

Today, PERKESA comprises members ranging from individual scrap collectors to highly sophisticated, technology-driven processing facilities.

Recycling plays a vital role in reducing dependence on primary natural resources while minimizing waste sent to landfills, supporting Malaysia’s journey toward a circular and sustainable economy.

Since 2020, Perkesa has been dedicated to environmental stewardship, community development, and ethical trade.

By working closely with the government, businesses, and the public, we strive to shape forward-looking policies, raise awareness, and implement best practices that strengthen Malaysia’s recycling ecosystem and drive sustainable progress nationwide.

1. Ordinary Member Open to Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above who are directly involved or investing in the recycling industry.

3. Honorary Member Conferred upon distinguished individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the recycling, social, or environmental sectors.

In the near future, with the full support of the Government of Malaysia, MATRADE, MIDA, and under the visionary leadership of YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PERKESA aspires to represent Malaysia officially at global recycling expos and trade exhibitions — showcasing our nation’s commitment to sustainability and economic growth.
PERKESA’s ultimate goal is to uplift Malaysia’s recycling industry internationally, creating new opportunities for trade, innovation, and national prosperity.
